Scientific objective
Biomimetic and Innovative Optimized hydrodynamic concepts of high-efficiency underwater gliding DRONES for ocean research (BIODRONES) studied biomimetic hydrodynamic configurations for compact, high-efficiency autonomous underwater gliders intended for ocean research.
Methods and research connection
The project provides an application context for simulation-based design optimization, physics-aware design-space dimensionality reduction, surrogate and multi-fidelity modelling, and bio-inspired marine vehicle design. The associated computational work combines parametric geometry, potential-flow analysis with viscous correction, high-fidelity hydrodynamic models, and reduced representations based on physics-informed, physics-driven, and nonlinear PME.
